We are delighted to celebrate the publication of a new book by Dr. Rachel R. Rosner, Knapp Family Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow at the Vidal Sassoon International Center for the Study of Antisemitism at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
Her book, Adorno and the Question of Theology: Religion and Reason Beyond Foundations (Bloomsbury Academic, May 2026), offers a bold and original contribution to contemporary critical theory and philosophy of religion.
Drawing on close readings of Theodor W. Adorno’s major works, Dr. Rosner argues that Adorno’s engagement with theological language is neither incidental nor merely rhetorical, but central to his critique of both religion and foundational reason. Through the concept of “constellation,” the book challenges inherited divisions between the religious and the secular, opening new ways to rethink truth, meaning, and ethics—and to imagine forms of coexistence across difference.
Praised as “an arresting case” for the contemporary relevance of Adorno’s thought (Martin Jay, UC Berkeley) and as “thought‑provoking” and innovative (Lambert Zuidervaart, Western University), the book speaks to both specialists and newcomers alike.
About the Author
Dr. Rachel R. Rosner is a postdoctoral fellow at the Vidal Sassoon International Center and a fellow of the ERC‑funded Christosemitism Project, directed by Prof. Karma Ben Johanan. Her work spans Critical Theory, philosophy of religion, and social and political theory, with particular focus on Adorno and on the relationship between religion and secularism in modern thought. She completed her PhD in philosophy in 2025, following graduate studies at Northwestern University and Bar‑Ilan University.
