In my presentation I would like to discuss an interview project that focuses on up till now little-heard voices. These are interviews with women and men who, in their youth in the 1970s, were not close to the political mainstream of “1968” but to conservative groups. I interviewed them because I wanted to know why they got involved back then and how they interpret it today.
Since my project is part of the Werkstatt der Erinnerung, the oral history archive of the Research Center for Contemporary History, I will also briefly discuss the history of this institution, because I assume that this context, along with other aspects, has shaped how they spoke about their youth and activism.
